New Updates (and Equipment?)
As I've been playing with Jake Diebold and Carson Brown of Funk You
(www.myspace.com/funkyou12), I've began to realize that we have some
serious recording potential. Really all that we've been doing are jams
and cover songs, something that will go on for a while. Although it is
nothing serious at this point, I have hopes for forming a band with
these guys. Serious potential. Anyways, as usual I have my eye on a few
pieces of gear for this holiday season. They are as following:
-Monitoring System-
My
studio tracks, thus far, have all been mixed using a Tivoli stereo
alongside Sony MDR-7506 cans. Although they do a great job of making
CDs sound great, they don't do much for my mixes. As I'm becoming
progressively serious about recording, the time has finally come for a
REAL monitoring system! This is what I have in mind:
Mackie HR264 Active Reference Monitors
JBL LSR4326 PAK
While
the Mackies are the industry standard for 6" desktop monitoring, and
are THX certified, I'm not sure how they measure up to the JBL LSR4326
PAK. The JBLs are more expensive than the Mackies, but they have an
intuitive EQ function to insure an accurate mix in less than ideal
mixing environments. As this is something I will often encounter, the
choice will be a hard one. Also, the JBLs are bundled with an EQ
microphone and remote control. Tempting, I know.
As for monitor
management, I'll go with none other than the Mackie Big Knob! Another
great piece of equipment from Mackie that puts all the controls right
in your face, where they are needed.

That's it for now. I'll be posting again soon, hopefully with gear updates!
